Instructional Strategies
Knowledge & Practice
My methods of instruction derive heavily from Gagne's 9 events, of which I will break down with examples. This practice best aligns with my philosophy because it is student-centered, authentic and challenging. It focuses on impactful conversations and meaningful inquiry.
Gain attention: ask questions, realte to current events, make connections, sensory experiences
Inform learners of the objective directly: posters, handouts, provide physical manipulatives
Simulate prior learning: offer opportunities to share skills or experience, students responses will be collected electronically, physically or verbially.
Presentation of content/skill: provide explicit examples, manipulatives, direct hands-on instruction experiences
Provide guidance: answer questions, individual conferences
Performance: provide opportunities for students to get more hands-on with the material, present learning in differientiated ways if necessary, and take advantage of school resources/oppurtunities
Assess & Reinforce: provide feedback, offer advice and suggestions, hang or present materials in the hallways/classroom/at events, create displays, provide callback oppportunities to this learning experience
Gagne's 9 Events model
Bloom's Taxonomy
My classroom instructional strategies align with Bloom's taxonomy model because each lesson is built in a similar sequence of events, engaging the senses and using skills to continue building knowledge.
